SOUTHERN YORKE PENINSULA
June 2006

Thursday saw the Foxes, Paays, Youngs and Spot arrive at the campsite South of Minlaton.  Beerens and Grants beat the holiday rush arriving Friday afternoon.  The Pearces and the Klinkerts had an early Saturday morning rise and joined us for our “Queens tour” of the Brentwood area and the sand hills near Cockle Beach.

In the afternoon we continued on to Daly Heads where we had permission to camp on another private property.  It was Dean’s Birthday on Saturday and the campfire was well stoked.  No need to say anymore!!

Sunday was a free day to sightsee, walk, fish, geocache, rest, prepare for the roast at night and rescue distressed 4WDrivers.  Spot, George and Dean went to the aid of a driver who was stuck in the sand 7 Kms away on a beach.  The rescue was very simple.  They told him to let his tyres down more.  The wife must have given the husband an earful as he sent her walking the 7 Kms.

Noticed Spot entertaining a crowd with white table cloths and silver wine goblets.  Roast night was a gourmet affair.  It started with Denise’s tasty beer bread rolls and then there were the delicious roasts and finally golden syrup dumplings and cream for all.

Other observations for the weekend were:

1.      Our new signs worked well for most of us.  I hear one person decided to test the signs and ignored speedo readings.  T.L. has learnt one thing.  If a sign is to be “Spotted” by a driver travelling solo it needs to be on the same side of the track as the gate they are looking for, especially when the track is fenced across at the end and vans are being towed.

2.      Denise needs to control her “Girls.”  5.00 a.m. and all that mooing was not a pleasant wake up call.  She tells me that the girls were celebrating the safe arrival of  “How Now” to the herd.

3.      We learnt a little about fireside manners with Stuart delicately picking up Mr Billy with his handkerchief.  Mr Billy was too hot!!  Oh no a bylaw infringement.  Burning a handkerchief in the fire.  Not to be outdone, Greg will have to say farewell to his Marty Monster hat as he picked up a very hot Bill and managed to weld IC in black charcoal and holes in the body of the beanie.

Another enjoyable weekend away.
