NEW YEAR'S TRIP
CADELL
January 2007

We were invited to join the ORVC on their New Year’s Trip to Cadell. We had spent time on the same property with the group 2 years earlier so knew we were in for a fun time again.

On Wednesday, 27th December, Herma, George, Spot and we [Theo and Bev] arrived at lunch-time and set up camp.

On Thursday, 28th, Bev and Gerry and Jan and Dean arrived.

Then on Friday, 29th Leonie and Greg and Denise and Stuart arrived.

On Friday night we all went for dinner at the Morgan Hotel and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. After returning back to the campsite we sat around and told a few yarns and shared a few laughs before hitting the cot.

Because the weather was hot, the days were mostly spent relaxing under the shady trees or our annexes. However, the boys spent a lot of their time fishing. Gerry broke his “drought” and caught most of the fish; earning the greatest respect of his fellows campers and received a verbal award from Greg for his efforts.

The fish were cooked on a barbie and eaten for lunch one day.

Gerry brought along his” Rubber Ducky and 12 volt egg-beater”---inflatable boat and motor, and had a good time exploring the River Murray.

Time was spent driving around in the vehicles looking at the local area.

The weather was very unpredictable ranging from hot to gusty strong winds to thunder storms, lightning and rain. One day we had a freak gusty windstorm which only lasted for 5 minutes and caused a few problems with our annexes.

New Year’s Eve was very enjoyable with a couple of drinks, nibbles, yarns and jokes. We had sparklers, glowsticks and whistles and Dean was up to his usual tricks setting off a bomb at midnight [frightened the wits out of us!!!!]. We celebrated with hugs and kisses and shortly after everyone went to their vans to have a good night’s sleep.

On Monday 1st January Leonie and Greg, Denise and Stuart, and Jan and Dean had to head back to Adelaide because some had to go back to work on Tuesday.

Bev and Gerry headed off to Naracoorte to stay at the caravan park there. It was suggested that Gerry was trying to avoid going home because there was painting to be done.

On Tuesday, 2nd January Spot went home in the morning. After listening to the weather forecast and hearing that we were in for even hotter weather, we decided to pack up and head home ourselves.

A great time was had by all.

Thanks ORVC .

Bev and Theo Beerens.
